Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (1880-1938) was one of the representatives of Expressionism and founders of the Die Brücke school of art. Kirchner became deeply disillusioned after the Nazis took power in Germany and branded his work as degenerate art. In 1937, more than 600 works were destroyed or sold by the government, a fact that the painter could not bear psychologically and committed suicide a year later.
