William Morris (1834-1896) was, among other things, a textile designer and artist closely associated with the British Arts and Crafts movement. He contributed significantly to the revival of traditional British textile arts and production methods. Morris was recognized during his lifetime for his contribution to Victorian poetry. The author of numerous works of poetry, he also wrote novels and produced an ambitious translation of the Icelandic sagas. He was instrumental in the creation of the modern fantasy genre.
