Our team is getting more and more excited as the 87th Oscars ceremony grows closer. We cannot wait to see which movies will win the Academy Awards! We already introduced you to our personal favorites in a previous blog post by shining light upon the lesser known categories. Now, we will give you five exciting, unknown facts about the Oscars. Then, you’ll be sure to impress your friends when the ceremony will start!
- Ben-Hur (1959), Titanic (1997) and The Lord of The Rings have won the greatest total amount of awards: 11 Oscars! The Return of The King (2003) is the only one that won all the awards in every category it was nominated.
- Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro are the only actors ever awarded for playing the same character: Vito Corleone. Robert De Niro performance also helped The Godfather Part II (1974) to win the Best Picture award, making it the only sequel to be awarded the prestigious reward.
- Only two actors have ever been awarded Oscars after their death: Peter Finch and Heath Ledger. Ledger won for his astonishing performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight (2008) and died while the movie was being edited.
- Starting in 1967, with his performance in Easy Rider, Jack Nicholson was nominated 12 times. That makes him the most nominated male actor in the Academy Awards. He won three times, which makes him one of the most rewarded male actors in the Oscars.
- And our last fun fact: The world-famous Oscars statues are given to the lucky winners under a strict contract. If they are to be sold, they must be first offered to the Academy for the amount of $1 USD. Just to avoid people selling it away for a huge amount of cash.
