2018 already established itself as a great year for film; full of amazing films, fascinating sequels and long-awaited adaptations – from Black Panther to Deadpool 2. Yet, there are still many more to come. Our preview of 2018’s upcoming blockbusters summarizes the anticipated highlights. So, settle down, grab some popcorn and be prepared to spent all your money at the movies.

Marvel-lous

Marvel never shies away to attempt – and succeed – to surprise us, while delivering what our action-loving hearts desire. Black Panther, Avengers and Deadpool already knocked us out of our chairs with its powerful fight-scenes; but also, its underlying meaning providing more value to the storyline; in addition, to their unique humour. And they’re not finished, yet!

Ant-Man And The Wasp   –   JULY

We are being gifted with yet another superhero chapter of the Marvel universe. This movie features Rudd Paul, as a man divided by his choices as a father and a superhero, with the thrilling ability to shrink in size. While trying to find the balance between his private life and being Ant-Man, Scott is confronted with a new mission. He must put on his suit and work alongside the Wasp, leading to the exposure of secrets from their past.

Venom   –   OCTOBER

Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy stars in this dark Marvel-comic book adaptation, as the human host of the “inner anti-hero” Venom. You may know this character from the Spider-Man films or books; an alien creature of liquid form that takes over a human body and manipulates its mind. Venom’s appearance has already sparked a hype within the Tumblr community.

Aquaman   –  DECEMBER

Jason Momoa, the charming Hawaiian with heavenly curls, best known for his role as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones; stars as Arthur Curry, who learns that he is the sole heir of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis. He finds himself caught between his life on land, where the people spoil the ocean selfishly; and the sub-aquatic world, where the Atlanteans will no longer tolerate their arrogance.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout   –  AUGUST

Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt, who must face the dire consequences of his failed mission, alongside the IMF team and familiar allies. This movie, alike its predecessors, promises a great deal of action and breath-taking moments, in addition to its underlying storyline.

The Predator  –  SEPTEMBER

The unfortunate actions of a young boy cause the arrival of the universe’s most lethal and ruthless hunters. The predators return to earth stronger and smarter than ever before, with the genetic upgrade they achieved utilizing the DNA of other species. Humankind’s fate lies in the hands of a mismatched group of ex-soldiers and science teachers.

The Incredibles 2 – JULY

After 14 years (!), this special family returns to the big screen. Elastigirl saves the day by fighting crime that spoils society’s peace. Meanwhile, Mr. Incredible has to face the greatest challenge of them all – being a stay-at-home-dad.

Halloween  –  OCTOBER

Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) must prepare for her final fight with the masked slasher, Michael Meyers; who has left her traumatized and haunted by the events of his first killing spree. The 11th adaptation of the horror-cult-film takes place 40 years after the initial horrors on Halloween night. Will Laurie get her final revenge and peace after 4 decades?

Fantastic Beasts:  The Crimes of Grindelwald  –  NOVEMEBER

Harry Potter’s prequel-sequel, shows us the story of young Dumbledore (Jude Law) and Newt Scamandar (Eddie Redmayne) who unite to prevent the fulfilment of Grindelwald’s (Johnny Depp) plan of having pure-blood wizards rule over non-magical beings.

Bohemian Rhapsody  –  OCTOBER

Fearless lives forever. This biographical movie about the rock band Queen presents the years between its formation in 1970 and the frontman’s death in 1991. Singer Mercury, guitarist May, drummer Taylor and bass guitarist Deacon achieve great fame with their musical work in the ‘70. Freddie’s wild lifestyle is spiralling out of control and the band must find out how to keep the harmony between its members, in the face of success and recklessness.

Alita: Battle Angel   –  DECEMBER

This cyberpunk action film is based on Yukito Kishiro’s famous manga Battle Angel Alita. The plot is set centuries in the future and follows the abandoned cyborg Alita, who is saved by doctor Ido (Christoph Waltz), in the Iron City. Alita has no memory of her past nor of her identity; yet, must fulfil her purpose to end the cycle of death and destruction. However, to do so, she must fight and kill. According to its filmmakers, this adaptation will not include whitewashing of its characters.
