Can a European series now be successful worldwide without any Hollywood star? Netfilx´s Tvshow Money Heist ( La Casa de Papel) is proving us that it can.
Who would reject the offer for the robbery of the millennium? One witty gentleman, talking to El Professor, addressed selected criminals in Spain to the biggest theft ever – The aim is to occupy the Royal Mint and to print € 2.4 billion instead of theft without endangering a single life. In addition, spend in the Mint hostage 11 days – dressed in red overalls and in the mask of Salvador Dalí.
Their crazy plan includes hostages and perfect collaboration between team members named after world capitals (Tokyo, Helsinki, Moscow, Berlin …). But the police have their own procedures and the group is increasingly feeling insecure. For sure, eleven days is a very long time for something to go wrong!
The pilot episode doesn’t lose time by explaining much – no introduction to characters and preparation for the event. The hot Spanish blood is waiting for nothing and the thieves are send straight into action! This keeps the show tense and it makes you very curious , as you will surely want to see how this crazy plan ends. So, although the pilot episode has 80 minutes, you won’t be bored for a moment.
The series offers a very interesting insight of why this kind of robbery may actually work because of the long-term isolation and constant external presence of the police. What you need to do is is to get ordinary people on your side and convince them that they are doing the right thing. However, it does not work for everyone, and there are some mints among the hostages who have a different opinion.
The heroes get acquainted and the plan is explained retrospectively during the series. But only part of the story is always shown, we don’t know anything that’s not needed. But each bit raises other questions and keeps a dose of curiosity in you.
Why is La casa de papel, how is the series called in the original, so great? It is a healthy combination of thriller and comedy that you will really enjoy. Interesting and crazy characters, a thoughtful story and easy plot twists will absorb up quickly and you won’t be able to stop watching. The show is full of great visual impression and beautiful Spanish . The series is so popular that third season premiere in Milan was watched by over 5,000 people together at Piazza Affari.
The third series became the most watched non-English / non-American program on Netflix and became the 3rd most watched on Netflix ever after Stranger Things and Umbrella Academy. The IMDB has a rating of 8.5.
