Fun facts about the development of Warcraft

30. 01. 2020

It´s unbelievable, but it has been 26 years since the first game of the “Warcraft” series came to light. Yes, it’s right. It’s been over a quarter of a century. And while one generation remembers the first steps of this universe, the other was engulfed in “World of Warcraft“. This second generation this year gets the opportunity to try the breaking point of the series and it is “Warcraft 3: Reforged”, This is a remaster of the original game, so it has better graphics and more tuned control. On this occasion we have prepared for you interesting facts from the development of each game series. Whether you follow the Alliance or the Horde, we hope that our fun fact review will put in your mind the  desire to give the new remaster a chance.

Warcraft: Orcs & Humans

As we said in the introduction, the video game “Warcraft: Orcs & Humans” was first released in 1994 (For Mackinstosh in 1996). Everything started with this game, and a whole new world was born, which a few years later dominated the game world with its stories and characters. What you might not know was that this game had no script! Dialogues in the game were created while improvising in the recording studio. So, if you’re wondering if it is necessary to have well-formed dialogues and stories for video games, Warcraft may have just answered this question😊

Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness

The sequel to the successful first episode was not long in coming and was released at the turn of 1995 and 1996. One of the things that a large number of players missed is that in 1997 Blizzard exclusively passed the development and distribution rights to the console version of Electronics Arts to has made it easy to release games for Playstation and Sega Saturn. It really is. And why is it so special? Because Blizzard is currently operating after Activision, which is more or less an opponent of Electronic Arts. Given that Blizzard’s future under Activision does not look the most violent, it would be interesting to know what would be next if the cooperation with EA did not end this game, but continued until now.

Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos

Perhaps the most famous game of the initial trilogy was released in 2002 and was planned  in advance. Or not? The third game was originally called “Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans” and was to tell only Thrall’s story. But it was eventually incorporated into the final game. But that’s not all. After the company management refused to develop the first game because of low quality, came the idea of a game called “Warcraft Legends”, which was supposed to be in third person, without any construction or strategy (As was customary in the series earlier). Even this plan did not work out even though the game was already under development. Its basic structure, however, eventually applied to Warcraft III.

World of Warcraft

After all, the fans of the series saw changes in the established strategic style in 2004 when MMORPG World of Warcraft came. There is no need to present it in detail – the game is still active and probably everyone has heard about it. The fact that we will reveal to you is very exclusive. It got online just a month ago when Jeff Kaplan (currently the lead designer of Overwatch) had a special Christmas stream on twitch.tv. He revealed that while he was still working on World of Warcraft, developers were given the task of presenting their work to management. So, a “demo” was created to show all the important aspects of the game, but only a few minutes before the presentation the game servers crashed and the developers had to improvise practically from the opening screen, where nothing could be seen from the game itself. We have to thank them for their efforts, because if improvisation was not so great, we would never have seen this game.
